Brandy Pie Book Company

Our story

Stories for the head and heart of any age.

Brandy Pie Book Company makes illustrated children's books with zero preaching and a whole lot of drama, mystery, and humor — stories of authentic characters learning how to live, love, and look out for one another.

Our purpose

Celebrating the strength of families.

At Brandy Pie Book Company, we believe in the quiet strength of families. Our books tell stories that celebrate that strength — and the everyday heroes who hold a family together.

We make books for the whole family to share: simple and true for a three-year-old, and rich enough to move a grown-up reading along. Stories with something for the head and heart of any age.

The author

Kathleen Harward

After a long career in law — including years as a campus lawyer at Colorado State University — Kathleen turned to the work she loves most: telling stories that help children grow up brave, kind, and close to their families.

The company, and its hero dog, are named for her chocolate Lab, Brandy Wilbur Pie. Her grandmother's weekly bread-making in Imperial, Nebraska became the heart of The Lost Recipe. Every Brandy Pie book is written by Kathleen and printed in the United States by an independent book printer who has been making quality books for decades.

Our artists

Illustrated by hands around the world

Our illustrators come from around the world and share a reverence for family and the power of story. We combine our talents outside of big industry — and the books are all the warmer for it.
